I am entertained! I’ve enjoyed some incredible performances over the past few months!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Parts 1 and 2. Required a full day and night commitment (with thanks to Grandad for the childcare) but absolutely worth it. A captivating and magical show that establishes a new standard for Broadway. Awesome music by Imogen Heap.
Jon Hopkins at Brooklyn Steel. Great sound for an audio wizard. Simple solo set up with great lights and projections.
San Holo at Terminal 5: An extensive performance with guitar and vocals. Melodic and emotive.
Circus Abyssinia at New Victory Theater: Extraordinary Ethiopian acrobats performing to excellent Ethiopian music. Brought the kids to the Saturday matinee and they were impressed and inspired.
Satyagraha at BAM: The Philip Glass opera based on Ghandhi and the Bhagavad Gita is a beautifully slow build, but this staging included some jaw-dropping circus performers bringing intense gravity to every note. A gorgeous spectacle.
Land Band at Hank’s Saloon: We played our farewell gig at our favorite venue, the finest dive bar in Brooklyn, as it closes its doors forever in the next few weeks. Its decrepit beauty will haunt me into the beyond.
Me in the Box: Building my basement studio may be one of the best things I have ever done in my life; a home studio has been a dream since I first played and finally having a drum set and guitars and amps and keyboards and recording capabilities in my house is thoroughly delightful and enjoyable. I have been able to experiment with my equipment and incorporate new instruments in my compositions.
