Reality: 14th Street

I made my meander on 14th St. from Avenue C to the Hudson, then got back to Union Square before the battery drained completely. Rolling the audiovisual party cart across town while projecting videos of 14th Street onto the sidewalk, buildings and people, it felt good to share my music with the surprised public, who were appreciative of the brief encounter. I'm not quite sure why I felt compelled to join the Art in Odd Places Festival or manifest the project in this way, but I dreamed it up and made it happen. For both artist and audience, it is…

Supergood Reality: 14th Street @AiOP 2012

Raquel de Anda makes art happen! When Alaina's college roomie moved to Brooklyn a few months ago, she was immediately integrated in numerous projects and coordinating art of all varieties. One of these is Art in Odd Places, an annual community art festival taking place all along 14th Street in Manhattan for 10 days, so I decided I would perform a sidewalk version of Supergood Reality. Since then, I have been visualizing what it would look like and considering infinite possibilities. Last night, it came alive! My Studio has been untethered! Into a "granny-cart" frame, I loaded a 12V battery,…

Open Your Eyes

Godot is an artist who creates some amazing stop-action videos with all sorts of different media. He is an innovator and an activist who craves social justice, using art to promote Supergoodness in all aspects of life. He is also my brother-in-law and I have been lucky to work with him, producing soundtracks for a number of his videos. Here is one that I recently collaborated on, with video shot in the art jungle of Berlin. Enjoy! Open Your Eyes

Vimeo App

I am extremely excited to be a part of the Vimeo app for iPhone! It is an editing and posting station ON YOUR PHONE! It has many features that integrate it into the already great Vimeo community for more possibilities and uses. In addition to video-editing capabilities, it features a small library of music to enhance your creations and includes a Supergood track. I am honored to be involved with this wonderful technological evolution and hope to push it forward in the future. The most important aspect of the personal computer revolution is that better and more efficient tools for…

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Their music sounds like nothing else; eminating soundwaves create an aural sea of vibrations for mental flotation... It is grand and glacial, creeping along while building and releasing intensity in epic breaths that last night's venue could not have suited any better. St. John's Church on 60th and Columbus is one of those truly impressive spectacles you would go visit on a trip to Europe, but seeing as I never go to church in my own country except for the occasional wedding, I would not typically find myself in such a space; quite a shame for its extraordinary beauty. Luckily,…

Supergood Reality

On November 19, 2010, Reality happens at Ars Nova. As part of their annual ANT FEST for developing works, they have invited me to take the stage and do my thing, which generally includes music, video, monologue and mayhem. Over the past eight years, I have performed many incarnations of this show in different venues, most of which no longer exist (Arthur's Dress Shop, Trilogy Theater, Monkeytown), but Ars Nova is by far the nicest theater I have ever been a part of. I am thrilled to have this opportunity and I hope that YOU can join us. Tickets are…

Vimeo

Internet video has come a long way in a short time and it seems clear that as bandwidth expands, so expands our consumption of web media. Some of this includes Hollywood fare, but a lot (most?) of it is made with a camcorder at zero cost and distributed worldwide at zero cost by hosting sites like YouTube. Vimeo offers the same service but with a culture difference; you could call it a high brow/low brow thing but it seems more like just a caring and encouraging community that appreciates artistic expression. The first annual vimeo awards festival attests to that…

Radiohead Knows

In reading a Wall Street Journal article about why so many artists hate videophones (accept it already!), I came across the quiet news that Radiohead fans at a concert in Prague last year culled together a full concert HD video from 60 fans with flipcams. The band not only gave the project approval, but the soundboard recording. The result is incredible. It is Everyfan's view, and the object of his obsession is the most exciting rock band making music today. Obviously it is Radiohead, the first major act to sell their work as pay-what-you-wish download, offering a free concert video…

Music Evolves!

I saw the band OK GO perform "This Too Shall Pass" on The Colbert Report then saw their videos for the song and am overjoyed by their brilliance. They made two versions, one featuring a giant Rube Goldberg contraption and one performed live with a marching band and choir. Absolutely Amazing. And if you have never seen their first video, dancing on the 8 treadmills, then you should probably watch that as well. Thank Good there are still great music videos despite the fact that MTV has turned into a wasteland of our culture's worst. Interestingly, State Farm Insurance paid…
